The Secrets of Off-Page Linking

15th October 2009

Google has become the dominant Search Engine with approximately 67% of all searches globally. This figure in South Africa is actually quite a lot higher. Ten years ago, SEO was a lot simpler with keyword density and on-page SEO being the most important factors in determining where the website ranks in a Search Engine.

Since then, Google has moved away from this approach and has focused more on the importance of a website’s off-page factors such as the number of links pointing to a page. Some industry experts believe this to be as high as 90% of the total score and significantly determines where your page is placed in the organic results.

Additionally, Google took this one step further. Not only did they count the number of links from a page, they also ranked it. A link from a page which itself had lots of links into it counted for much more than a link from a page no-one else linked to. Google analysed, indexed and ranked each link on every page. This is called natural linkage as it develops by itself.

The problem that Google presents is that not all websites have unique information and relevant content that would necessitate the creation of natural links, therefore I highly recommend a combination of natural and artificial links.

Artificial links can be bought, borrowed, begged in order to help you increase your organic ranking. None of these methods are condoned by Google and I highly recommend supplemental artificial link building for SEO purposes.

RAW Media Concepts, website and software developers has developed its own system of link building, both internal and external, from years of research, experimentation and experience. Our approach, coupled with love, care and a severe determination to increase your page’s ranking is the third and most important approach to the 3-tier RAW SEO solution.
